Bring Me a Dream
by Erin Kellison
I received an ARC of this book from the Publisher, via Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.
This is #5 in the Revelers Series. Number 5?!?!
Darkness Falls (in Dark & deadly anthology)
Lay Me Down
Darksider
Night's Deep Hush
I am pretty much giving up on spoiler free reviewing of this series. If you haven't read these yet, start at the beginning, because these are NOT stand alones. This is Vincent Blackman's and Mirren Lambert's story. These two are kind of the anti-heroes as they have both been the villians in previous entries, and you can't be quite sure which way they would land in this one. One tainted by nightmare blood and the other the daughter of a nightmare, they aren't foils for each other, they are more like a deranged power couple, but I liked them, both individually and as a couple. This entry opens up the world of Reve and shows just how broad the dangers are, and how deep the conspiracy goes. This is a great, action packed and emotional entry into this series, and despite my frustrations I am giving it 4 stars.
Here's my frustration with this series, it isn't a series of novels, it is a series of novellas. The first story is available for free, but each of the rest are $2.99 each, and this does not appear to be the final entry to this serial. Considering the only other pay as you go serial I have read is Meljean Brook's Kraken King, I'll grant you I don't have much to go by, but at this point we are looking at at least $16.00 including tax for the whole series, assuming she stops at 6. As a reader, I don't have the right to tell an author how to price things, but at this point, if I weren't getting review copies, I am uncertain if I would be buying these. I am hopeful when Ms. Kellison has completed the serial, she'll put them all together into one book and sell at, what I would consider, a more reasonable price like Ms. Brook did, because the story itself is excellent.
